Welcome to
Rainbows and Puddles Books
Rainbows and Puddles Books enables children to get lost in nature, helping them to build a deep respect for our wonderful world.
Our stories tap into a child's natural sense of curiosity, where adventure sparks their imagination and brings it to life!
Let's start at the beginning.....
From very young I have always had a dream...To write my very own book. That's where it all begins.
One of my nan's cherished memories is me lying on my tummy happily writing away, yet another story. My favourite thing to do.
Many years passed and lockdown hit. As a childminder, I wanted to think of a creative idea to keep in touch with all of my little people. At Rainbows and Puddles Childminding, we are very much an outdoor setting, making the most of our natural world to help children develop their curiosity, resilience, creativity and independence. That's it, I would go live, reading nature based stories in our very own green space - our back garden.
Lots of props, dressing up, getting into character ensued, to the point where our neighbours started wondering who they were living next door to! It got me thinking - that dream that I had that never materialised, I could actually go for it. I could have my own nature based story to have fun with and bring to life with children. How amazing would that be?
So I began to write, at first these were quick notes - a few ideas, then they eventually evolved into three stories. Once lockdown had finished, the children returned and we were back to busy busy days so the stories ended up quietly sleeping on my laptop. Waiting for their moment.
Back in 2022, I met Karen aka Millie Moth, the wonderful artist behind the beautiful illustrations in this story. I was visiting a Christmas market and she had a stall full of gorgeous paintings and cards. I was wowed by the style and creativity in her work and asked her outright if she would like to work with me, creating the illustrations for one of my stories. She agreed and I suppose the rest is history.
We teamed up with Publishing Push Ltd, a self publishing company. After lots of hard work and late nights, "Our Dear Tree" was published in April 2024.
I'm very proud of our little story and how it benefits young children. Hopefully I have the opportunity to bring my other stories into the big wide world and celebrate them with all that want to share.
